Joomla Installation Guide for Creative Pros

CMS or Content Management System are rapidly becoming one of the main requirements for online marketing. That’s why Creative Professional specially Graphic Web Designers are looking for productive, cost effective and easy to learn CMS solution but creative pros are over shadowing of negative beliefs, thinking that only programmer can setup and maintain this kind of application, maybe co-workers or the agencies don’t want to share this knowledge. Some creative people specially those in printing and web graphic department are only allowed to work in minimal aspect.
thinker_joomlaAll of my CG friends and students are always telling this scenario asking me if they can setup and manage database driven web site like Joomla. Some of the online tutorials in the web are not that easy to understand. That’s why I created this tutorial with screencast, study shows that creative guys like me don’t like to read a lot specially when reading long tutorial  :)

I wrote an article before 3 Easy Steps to Setting up your Web site this will give you great insight about domain name, web hosting  etc. I suggest that you read this article first before you proceed in this tutorial.

Domain or Sub domain
We will be using sub-domain in this tutorial. If you need to buy a domain name, you can do directly from your web hosting provider, or through a separate domain name service and change the DNS , this will be cover in next tutorial. One of the top Domain registrar is Goddady.com

Hosting package
For this tutorial I will use CPanel, a system that will let you set up your own blog or forum with a few clicks. I’ve been a customer of HostGator going on my 6th years and have always been satisfied. Before I am just hobbyist and website building is not my profession. I choose HostGator because of its monthly payment feature. The CPanel offers a lot, more than I can use. I made a trial and error installation, I tried Joomla, b2evolution, wordpress phpnuke, and many others. Installation and un-installation are just a click of a button. Now, as web developer I’ve never been aware of any downtime of my dedicated server, also I still have some shared hosting, excellent live support I regularly chat the online support and guide me every-time I have problem usually file permissions and my bad coding :) .
