Currently doing project for my local client its an existing Content Management System (CMS) created using Joomla, they design this site base on their product marketing style and they just want to add a shopping cart functionality. This is a starting company with limited budget so I need to find a cost effective Open source or free extension for joomla since they don’t want to migrate to new system. There are tons of shopping cart extension for Joomla but I find more positive reviews about Virtuemart an Ecommerce Component for Joomla.

What is the best Open Source Shopping Cart that you use?. This is a common question people ask me in seminars or even when I hang up with my web worker friends , my response is “It Depends on what my client ’s needs”. 
There are so many open source shopping cart out there but I need to ask my client this questions, what is the products?, How many products ?, if they only have 1 to 5 products, there is no need to set up a shopping cart, I can sign up to paypal.com and create a link payment for my client this will save me time and headache modifying or creating new shopping cart theme. Other things to consider when choosing e-commerce package is the kind of products, downloadable products like ebooks, music, games and software, usually open source shopping cart don’t support handling of electronic data or I have install plugins not all of this are free if you want stable plug-ins you have to purchase.
